Yay! Madhuri Blaylock, author of The Sanctum and co-writer at Write Bitches, nominated me for the Liebster Award.
Wait. Who is this mysterious Liebster? And why did he start these awards?
I have no idea, but I am very honored to participate. Here’s what Madhuri says.
“… the Liebster Award is an award by bloggers, for bloggers. It’s handed out to foster good vibes and promote connection and support. It’s also a great way to shine a little extra love on some new peeps.
Subsequent to being nominated, there are a few things you’ve gotta do:
- Post 11 random facts about yourself
- Answer 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you
- Nominate 11 bloggers (with less than 200 followers) to do the same
- Let the bloggers you have nominated know they have been nominated”
Sounds like fun, so here we go!
11 Random Facts About Me
- When I was kid, I loved to play outside and get dirty. I once had a pet roach named him Blackie.
- I got kicked off the National Junior Honor Society for bringing Mad Dog 20/20 to school in a Rave hairspray bottle.
- I love all things Baroque. Harpsichords, corsets, and men in tights.
- I have an aversion to talking on the phone. I avoid phone calls at all cost. I’m not sure why.
- I once played bass guitar in a band called Big Cherry. I was awful, mostly because I was so nervous before performing that I would drink too much scotch.
- I love driving. It seals you into an instant meditation. There’s nothing more peaceful than cruising through the countryside while listening to your favorite music.
- I am deathly allergic to wasps. Anaphylactic shock is one sting away.
- I hate very ripe fruit, especially ripe bananas. Bleck!
- I take my coffee with 2%, no sugar.
- I have lived outside the US for eight and a half years.
- My middle name is Joan, after my mother’s sister.
Madhuri’s Questions
1. Favorite writer and why? I have many, but right now my literary crush is on Franz Kafka. I adore him because despite being neurotic, miserable, and confused he’s funny, flirty, and has a gorgeous mind.
2. Define happiness. Happiness is being comfortable in your own skin (which I have yet to achieve).
3. Six words to describe you. Irritable, Delusional, Loving, Intelligent, Dorky, Visionary.
4. Favorite literary anti-hero. My Favorite literary anti-hero is my poor disturbed Antoni Azarov, who stopped by last week if you want to meet him. Then it’s a toss-off between Vicomte de Valmont in Dangerous Liaisons, which I just posted in my Fave Movie Characters post, and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights.
5. Any dreams deferred? Why? My dream deferred was to be an author. Being who I was and where I was a decade ago, it was impossible. I thought it would never happen. Now all of my circumstances have aligned in such a way that I can finally pursue my dream full-force. I’m so grateful The Fates have given me this opportunity.
6. Sneakers or shoes? Flip-flops. I hate my poor toesies all hot and squished.
7. What do you find attractive in a partner? Self-possession is the most attractive trait to me.
8. Tell me a joke. What kind of bee gives milk? A boo-bee. Dah-dum-dum-chi!
9. Poetry or prose? Prose. Tell me a story.
10. Favorite place to write? I have written in cars, hotels, restaurants, while walking; but my favorite place to write is in my bedroom on my massive iMac.
11. Three items going with you to paradise. I’ll take my iPad mini, my music collection, and a notebook with pen.

Thank you for the nomination Christa! I love all your answers. It was nice learning more about you and seeing what we have in common. I also hate talking on the phone and love driving (sometimes) and cruising to my favorite music.
You and I are much alike about using the phone. I would call you once in awhile, but, well, you know. I think what it is, is that when you write, you can think about it first. When you’re talking on the phone, it’s all “on the spot” and that makes me nervous. Seriously, if I have to call a company for whatever reason, let’s say, the Internet company because my service isn’t working, I get so nervous, that my hands shake. It’s so stupid. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this amazing fact about me before. Anyway, I love you tons and congrats on your award!
OMG, I didn’t know that! I don’t think we were like this in the 90’s when we had no other option but to call, right? But the internet age has allowed me to avoid the phone in most cases. I don’t know what happened. I think it was after I got a few phone calls about loved ones who died.
There’s also the not being able to think ahead like you can in writing, and there’s the problem of not being able to see someone’s face.
I do a little better on Skype, if that makes any sense, but I still avoid calls as if they’ll derail my entire plans for the day. I hate being interrupted, even if I’m just doing some all important clothes folding or something.
Ten if I know I have to call someone (like to make a dentist appointment) I get all palm sweaty in advance. I go all day worrying about it and thinking of one hundred excuses not to do it. Usually when someone calls my cell, I press end and let it go to voicemail and then agonize about when and if I’ll call them back. It’s really weird. Should we get therapy?
Anyway, love you too. Miss you and let’s not call each other, lol.
I’m exactly the same way, so don’t worry. We’re perfect, remember? Sorry for the delayed reply, by the way. I haven’t been on this site for months. I’ll not call you real soon! And PLEASE tell me next time you’re visiting your sis, so we can meet up! Love you!

A big Thanks to Christa Wojo of My Sweet Delirium blog fame for nominating me! I am honored to be named “a really cool blogger”. 😀
Here are 11 Random Facts About Me:
1. I always wear a simple gold bracelet. It is my tattoo, I never take it off.
2. No tattoos. Hate needles with a vengeance. They make me cringe…
3. I wanted to be an architect when I was young, but when I grew up I learned about low pay, liability issues, and the probability of designing not glorious buildings, but mundane stuff. So I set that idea aside. Still love looking at architecture. It’s my favorite art!
4. I rode a pony briefly when I was five years old. Didn’t like it. I remember the sensation of feeling very unsteady, that I would fall off.
5. I despise dressing up. Not comfortable unless I am wearing sneakers and jeans. The only dress I have is the blue gown from my sister’s wedding, and I don’t envision wearing it ever again.
6. I took Driver’s Ed at 16yrs but didn’t take the road test until I was 18. Passed on the first try – yay! 🙂
7. Drove roundtrip to Maine and back to NYC on the same day. You see, I only wanted the lobster from Red’s Lobster Shack in Wiscasset…haha! ;-D
8. Never been drunk. The most is buzzed. Don’t like wine/beer, but I like cocktails such as white sangria, tequila sunrise. I am curious to see how I would be drunk, but I don’t like feeling dizzy, so I stop drinking when I reach that point.
9. I am a Virgo.
10. I played the clarinet in school band.
11. I took Etymology class in college and loved it. Not entymology. I am not a fan of insects, but word origins! 😀
Christa’s Question’s:
1. What’s your guiltiest pleasure? Delivery.com – Solo restaurant dining for one! 😀
2. What’s your weirdest quirk? I am very particular with formatting. If a page prints with the margins that I don’t like (e.g. fit page versus not) and I don’t like how it looks, I will print it again, otherwise it will continue to bother me. The irony is with this blog, I am not equipped to format it all that well – Ha!
3. Are you mommy’s or daddy’s boy/girl? Not sure…I might be both as I’m the baby. But when we were kids my sister seemed to pair up with my mother, and me with my father when we went shopping or ran errands sometimes. Then again, I am just less girly than her, soo…more daddy’s girl?
4. What’s the biggest disservice one can do to oneself? Not following your dreams because others invalidate you, make you think it’s a waste of time. One should always do what makes them happy, period.
5. Who’s your current movie/TV star infatuation? Tom Hardy. I wasn’t aware of who he was until I saw him in The Drop. And now he is the new Mad Max. Trailer looks super cool!
6. Name your greatest attribute. My thoughtfulness. I give the best little gifts! 😀
7. Are you a health nut or a junk food junkie? Total junk food addict. Just looking at healthy food makes me want to automatically think/say “blech” coupled with a severe stink eye.
8. Name the bad habit you want to break the most. I eat too much junk food and I know it’s bad! I won’t fully give it up soo… maybe eat a little less? Yeah, that works. 😀
9. Top or bottom? Now in what context could this be…Hehe. I’ll say bottom. 😉
10. Name your biggest pet peeve. Smoking. Cannot stand the smell, so don’t smoke in my presence.
11. What’s your favorite topic or theme to write about? Only because I know it so well, rejection and loneliness, and the hope of love.
My Questions for the Nominees:
1. What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?
2. Do you like Broadway shows? If so, what is your favorite musical?
3. What is your shoe size?
4. Do you act your shoe size? ;-D
5. If you were an animal, which one would you be?
6. Can you dance the Macarena?
7. What is your favorite cocktail or mocktail?
8. What color is your favorite shirt?
9. What is your favorite karaoke song?
10. Do you prefer savory or sweet?
11. Who should be King/Queen in Game of Thrones?
I nominate whoever wishes to accept this challenge. Going off the instructions here a bit, haha. It’s all good. 😀
Congrats, Christa! Well deserved. Love your list of random facts.
Thanks, Dianne. Have a Happy Easter!

I’m realigning this post because Christ’s awesome!
Plus I want everyone to see who she nominated in slot number 4 down at the bottom…
Dude. Mad Dog 20/20? That stuffs so nasty!!
But you’re my hero for thinking of putting it in a hairspray bottle. That’s pure genius!
And thanks for the nomination, and which I graciously accept with as much false humility as one can muster.
MD is the grossest, but it was the easiest thing to shoplift from Kash n Karry.
Honor Roll student who always did stupid crap is the story of my life!
Can’t wait to read your random facts. XOXO
I got kicked off the National Junior Honor Society for bringing Mad Dog 20/20 to school in a Rave hairspray bottle……………………………….. I wish we went to the same school.
ALSO, I love the 6 words you used to describe yourself. Once one can come to terms with the fact that they’re delusional – it’s a fun ride. 😉
Thanks for the nomination! I appreciate it.
Heheheh, yeah, I shared it with everyone, that’s why we got caught.
Glad you liked the 6 words. Now I’m thinking I should’ve scratched “visionary.” My visions are probably delusions too.
Can’t wait to see your answers, Jen!
