Stone Temple Pilots was not one of my favorite bands of the 90s, but their music was always playing on my friends’ CD players, on the radio, and on MTV. I can’t help but get nostalgic when I hear them.
We lost many remarkable artists from the 90s. It’s tragic how after making it to the age of 48, Scott Weiland still couldn’t let go of drugs.
What’s your favorite Stone Temple Pilots song?
Which artist’s death has affected you the most?
Why does it seem talented and creative people are more susceptible to addiction?
I could never understand, these people can have or buy anything they want in life. I can understand people struggling, no, food, money, living like dogs on the street. Successful people have so much, it is never enough, so they go to the next level to satisfy their mind, take the pressure off, get energy, get chilled, get overwhelmed, numbs the confusion.
Lennon and Presley probably effected me the most. chezzz there were so many.
I think the problem is that happiness is not found in money, success, or fame. These artists take drugs because of that. What can you do when you have everything and you’re still unhappy?
I love Creep. It’s been covered many many times, too, because everyone knows what a piece of genius the song is. My husband was the one who told me Weiland died and it made me sad. Not only was he too young, but so talented. And haunted, as well. I think he was also being sued by the remaining members of STP over their catalog.
So sad.
Okay, I’ll bite. I think artists feel every emotion more intensely and deeply than others. Sometimes, often, you just get sick of feeling so you have drugs to numb it down and become addicted. Add to that whatever psychological issues have developed from being an over-empath or traumatized and you have a perfect mix for suicide, intended or not. Artists are typically more introverted which leads to social imbalances. It is a sad reality, the duality of a creative life.
