This is one of a set of two sculptures by Michelangelo that were commissioned for a pope’s tomb, but were never used. Created between 1513 and 1516, it’s an impressive 7’4” in height.

To me he looks serene and sensual. I’m no art major, but it’s as if he’s dreaming of his lover.
