This is one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Talk Show Host is from the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack circa 1996, and it’s on the playlist I listen to while writing my work in progress.
I’m loyal to the 1968 movie so I wasn’t crazy about this modernized version at the time, although I’ve learned to appreciate Baz Luhrmann’s gaudy style through the years.
But this song…
Excerpt (explicit)
“You want me,
fucking come on and break the door down
I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready,
I’m ready…”
I think everyone wants someone who will break a fucking door down for them.

What’s your favorite Radiohead song?
What’s your favorite version of Romeo and Juliet?
What’s on your writing/reading playlist these days?
Love Radiohead. – I still listen to Creep and Lucky on loop.
I’ve never really loved a visual version of R&J till now.
My playlist is mostly old jazz tunes these days.
Great post! Hope things are well!
Xoxo
Thanks, Anne. Creep never gets old! And I love old jazz, especially New Orleans style. Must make for some interesting writing music.
Things are crazy, but great! Hope all is well for you too <3
Favourite Radiohead song – like asking a parent to pick a favourite child, simply not fair!
At the moment, I’ll go with Lucky. Exemplary songwriting, the soaring 2nd verse gets me every time
Heh, heh, heh, it was a trick question. The lyrics for Lucky kill me. It’s like hopeful hopelessness. I’m a glutton for that!
That makes two of us!
I love this song and I love that line/lyric SO MUCH.
What’s your favorite Radiohead song? Tie between this one and Fake Plastic Trees.
What’s your favorite version of Romeo and Juliet? This one, actually, the Baz version.
What’s on your writing/reading playlist these days? U2, Bon Iver, Mazzy Star, Butch Walker and The Decemberists.
Fake Plastic is one of my faves too. I’m very sentimental about all of The Bends. I’m going to watch this Baz version again. I wouldn’t be surprised if another new version will come out in the next decade. Nice playlist! I think I’ll add a few of those. Thanks for stopping by!
The Bends is very personal/sentimental to me, too – my favorite album of theirs.
Me too!
I loved that version of R&J and used to use it in my freshman classroom. I thought the final death scene was extremely well done–Romeo drinks the poison just as Juliet’s eyes flutter open. I can totally still see the emotion on Romeo’s face, even after all these years, as he comes to realize what he has done. Good stuff. I do remember the Radiohead song and I also remember being a big fan of the Everclear song that was on the soundtrack. “Local God” I think it was called?
Yeah, Everclear, and there was also that Garbage song. It’s hard to believe I haven’t seen that movie in almost 20 years! I should give it another go. I’ll probably appreciate it more now 🙂 The modernization of classics always throws me off, but both Claire Danes and Leonardo Dicaprio are extraordinary actors. I will pay extra attention to the death scene. Thanks, Ray!
